After several non succsessful tries to expand my layout, I have returned to the original track plan. So above picture is showing my completely layout for the moment. I will keep it as it is while planing a complete new layout.

Includes stickers for several European railway companies (SNCF, SNCB, FS, CFR, CFL, NS, PKP, SJ and TCDD). Currently it is marked as SCNF but I will eventually remark it as SJ (Statens Järnvägar, the Swedish national railway company). In Sweden it was called only G and had the original German appearance from about 1919 to 1929. In the late twenties the boiler was replaced.

I have added the possibility to dock my N-RE module(s) to my main layout. And I have built a return loop module, so that the trains can return to the main layout without any shunting operations.

The return loop is here connected directly to the main layout.

Still daylight. But the trees are leaveless, allthough it is summer in the rest of village.

And as the darkness falls...

Small city transformed

I was not happy with my little city. So what took a year to build was torn down during a weekend.

Instead I built a small village.

with a blacksmith.

And a new warehouse.

Fixing a disaster

One of my Minitrix locos, the G3/4H (Trix 12245), has been a real disaster. Refusing to run except for some short surges and a small jump every now and then. I am not very amused by hardware problems, and soldering is not one of my favorite pursuits. But last Monday evening I decided to try to fix it. It is a nice looking loco and it is a shame just to let it collect dust.

After several tests I found two problems. The first was the NEM contact for installing a decoder. No matter how I tried I could not get the all of the jumpers of the decoder to make contact. So finally I gave up and decided to solder the decoder directly to the PCB instead of using the NEM contact. And to my great surprise I succeeded. It suddenly worked very well on my straight test track.

But when I tried the loco on my layout the problems partly returned. But now only when running through bends and when going up or down hill. The second problem was that in every bend the tender lifted the loco enough for it to lose contact with the track resulting in a sudden stop. The plastic stripe connecting the tender with the loco was to short and to stiff. By cutting it into two and gluing it together again with a short and softer extension the problem was solved.

Of course it looked better when the coupling was shorter but now the loco runs well and I am a happier man :-).

The expansion, or version 2

For a year now I have been extending my original layout with a terminal station and a small city. My first layout was directly from a book but for the expansion I wanted to create a track plan by my self.

This is what it turned out like. The older part is to the right.

And a more schematic version of the track plan, better showing possible traffic flow.

I am not very satisfied with it. First of all I made a terminal station because I thought I wanted to do some shunting. But I now realize that I prefer to just watch the trains come and go, and to let the computer control the running. An intermediate station, with longer visible track sections and a reverse loop on both side, would suit me better. And second, the complete layout only have tracks that permits running max 3 or 4 trains at a time, which I think is enough. But it then lack storage areas for trains that I want to hide.

So I am already planning a new version 3 which means starting from scratch again...

Never the less, here is a complete (almost) view of my current layout.
